Your Daily Vitamins: Vitamin C
Winter is a harsh time for many of us, a lack of sunlight
and cold weather really can take it’s toll on the mind and body. There are
a lots of things that can help with this, eating well and getting enough
exercise. But if like me you
don’t always have the time for a daily work out or time to cook a well-balanced
meal, something I make sure I do is to take vitamins to give me that added boost. Vitamins come naturally in the food we
eat but that doesn’t mean we are getting enough of them or the right ones for our
bodies.
One of the best and most important vitamins to take for me
would be Vitamin C, also known as ascorbic acid. This vitamin is abundant in
many fruits and vegetables and is a powerful antioxidant, which helps the body
form and maintain connectivity, like tissue, bones, blood vessels and skin.
It not only helps maintain but also to repair and regenerate
tissues, protecting against heart disease and aiding in the absorption of other
vitamins such as Iron, which helps with fatigue. It is
common to not get enough iron, one of the highest vitamin
deficiencies known. Taking Vitamin C helps aid this as well. It can also be beneficial in helping to reduce cholesterol and triglycerides. It has
also been shown to fight free radicals and neutralise the effects of nitrites, which
are bad preservatives found in packaged foods. I take 250mg tablets from Terra Nova which are non- acidic and multi-ascorbate. They are best taken with food to help aid absorption into the
body, they are free from additives and free from animal products. Keeping them
as natural as possible which is always best.
