Negril is a hidden gem in the of south London, it is located on Brixton hill about a 10 minute walk up from Brixton underground station. Although the restaurant is situated on a main road the beautiful greenery surrounding the patio and dining area takes you to a tranquil space of nature and relaxation. The large front patio area has several tables to sit at and there is even more seating inside the comfortable, trendy and relaxed interior. On a lively Friday evening we took advantage of the bright weather and charming outdoor space and took a seat on the patio. The restaurant had a quiet buzz with people eating great food with friends and family on a beautiful Friday evening.

We were greeted by welcoming and up-beat staff who introduced us to the manager of the establishment. We got the pleasure of enjoying our meal in the company of the restaurant owner which allowed us to get a great feel for the concept behind the restaurant and learn a little about the different foods and dishes on the menu. The food is all authentic Rastafarian cuisine and the owner prides the restaurant on offering great food for everyone regardless of their dietary preferences. The service we received from everyone in the restaurant was exemplary- enthusiastic, welcoming and friendly; we felt very relaxed and at home whilst enjoying our food.

The best Caribbean food we have ever had. The flavours, range of dishes, freshness, presentation- every dish we sampled was spot on and delicious. Negril has a completely separate menu called "Ital" which means vegan. On this menu you can choose between a range of dishes from raw salads, bean burger, curries, stews and wraps. The side dishes are all vegan as well. We got 'stuck-in' trying a range of options from fried plantain, kale salad, rice and beans. The menu has a great balance of healthy dishes and more indulgent classic Caribbean foods- the fried plantain being a particular naughty favourite. The stew and butternut curry were both full of flavour and goodness and we scraped our dishes clean! The bean wrap came in a fresh home-made tortilla with a coconut tang and was reminiscent of peshwari naan - in short it was incredible. Negril also serves fresh coconut water and we were presented with an enormous coconut containing the sweetest freshest coconut water- it was a real treat.

Negril is an incredible restaurant and new favourite of ours where we enjoyed a range of healthy and indulgent vegan food, it's also a place where we can bring meat eater friends too. Wonderful flavours, beautiful setting, welcoming and friendly feel- we cannot wait to return for more of the butternut curry and fried plantain!
