Ambiance/Atmosphere
4/5

A dimly lit classy and understated restaurant in Notting Hill. Furnished using some lovely recycled and re-salvaged pieces it is a very comfortable and friendly, yet also up-market and chic. Perfect place for a dinner date or meal with family and friends. The establishment has 4 floors, the ground floor being the bistro, the second floor (Green Room) being ample to host events, parties  meetings and classes. The third floor is the white room, an incredible space with paint artfully paint splattered walls, its quite a feature and can also be used for hosting events. The top floor is the Dark Room, a New York style speak-easy bar with a super-food inspired cocktail menu. The restaurant was busy with tables full of  mostly young professionals enjoying dinner and drinks with friends or there partner.

We were greeted and shown to our seats by one of the lovely co-founders ,Jonathon, where we were explained the concept behind the restaurant and the menu. Over the course of the evening we got the opportunity to meet and chat to the other two co-founders Alice and Justin, all of whom were extremely welcoming and happy to talk about and explain a little about the zero waste, organic and vegetarian concept as well as give us a tour around the building. All the waiting staff were attentive, fast, friendly and  happy to help .

Though marketed as a vegetarian restaurant many of the dishes were suitable for vegan as well as being gluten free. The whole menu has a focus on vegetables and is ever evolving as they work with whatever produce is brought in that day. All water used in the restaurant is filtrated through a Pure Ionic filter supplied in partnership with world wide water this takes out all the nasties (including oestrogen which remains present when other filtration systems are used) and leaves the minerals your body actually needs from the water. This impressive system is the first and only in London and creates no waste products with the newly filtered water being decanted into re-usable glass bottles.

We ordered juices to accompany our meals however there was a varied drinks menu with other alcoholic and non-alcoholic options available including wines, beers and cocktails. The juices were freshly pressed and generously portioned.

All the food we ordered was beautifully presented and extremely flavorful. The courgetti starter was a definite must try only beaten for top spot favorite dish by the incredibly delicious Rice Cake and Kimchi which came with a sumptuous sweet yet tangy chilli sauce and beautifully prepared kale. We also enjoyed the signature dish, "The Market Plate" which came with an array of vegetables that were available that day, all well prepared and presented with a mesh of homely familiar flavors. Desserts were enjoyable though there was less of a choice for vegans the apple crumble being the only suitable option. Never the less the apple crumble was piping hot, sweet and sharp (everything you want a good crumble to be) and the carrot cake was divine.

Relaxing and friendly restaurant with with a homely and comforting menu made from entirely organic, vegetarian ingredients that have been saved from the bin and turned into beautiful dishes of flavorful food. Great and unique concept regarding the zero waste approach and we sincerely hope that it becomes a permanent restaurant as we hope to revisit and try some more of there delicious health and planet friendly food.
